Sleep Bag TOG Guide: 0.5, 1.0 & 1.5 TOG Explained

If you are shopping for a baby sleep bag, you will probably see a number followed by “TOG.” It can look technical, but the basic idea is simple: TOG is a way to describe thermal insulation. A lower TOG is lighter; a higher TOG provides more insulation.
For MossiBaby sleep bags, the three options are 0.5 TOG, 1.0 TOG, and 1.5 TOG. The right choice depends on the sleep environment, what your baby is wearing underneath, and the guidance provided with the specific product.

What Does TOG Mean?

TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade. In everyday terms, it helps you compare how much warmth a sleep bag is designed to provide. It does not tell you exactly what every baby should wear at a specific temperature, because babies, rooms, layers, and products can differ.

0.5 TOG: The Lightest Option

A 0.5 TOG sleep bag is the lightest of the three MossiBaby options. It is designed for warmer sleep environments or situations where only a light wearable layer is needed.

  • Lightest insulation level of the three options
  • Useful for warmer rooms and warmer seasons
  • Pairs with lighter sleepwear when appropriate

1.0 TOG: A Versatile Middle Weight

A 1.0 TOG sleep bag sits in the middle. For many families, this makes it a useful all-around option when the room is neither especially warm nor especially cool.

  • More insulation than 0.5 TOG
  • Less insulation than 1.5 TOG
  • A practical middle-weight option for changing seasons

1.5 TOG: A Warmer Option

  • Warmest of the three MossiBaby TOG options
  • Designed for cooler sleep environments
  • Layer underneath according to the product guidance and your baby's comfort

TOG Is Only One Part of the Decision

Room temperature matters, but so do the layers underneath the sleep bag and your baby's individual comfort. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises avoiding overheating and, in general, dressing a baby in no more than one extra layer than an adult would wear in the same environment.
Check your baby for signs of being too warm, such as sweating or a hot chest, and always follow the size, layer, and care instructions provided with the sleep bag.

Fit Matters Too

A sleep bag should be the correct size for your baby. The neck and arm openings should fit as intended, and the product should not be able to ride up over the baby's face. Choose the size using the product's stated measurements rather than sizing up simply for extra growing room.

A Sleep Bag Does Not Replace a Safe Sleep Space

Wearable blankets can help keep babies comfortable without adding loose blankets to the sleep area. For infants, safe-sleep guidance still applies: place baby on their back for sleep on a firm, flat, level sleep surface, and keep loose bedding, pillows, toys, and other soft objects out of the sleep space.
Do not use weighted sleep bags, weighted swaddles, or other weighted infant sleepwear.

Yes! Select Mossibaby styles can be personalized with names, special dates, meaningful details, or personalized prints. Available options vary by product and will be shown on the product page.

Can babies wear bamboo pajamas year-round?

Yes. The lightweight, breathable feel of bamboo viscose makes it a versatile choice throughout the year. You can adjust additional layers based on your baby’s room temperature and comfort.

How should I wash and care for Mossibaby clothing?

For the best results, wash with similar colors on a gentle cycle using cold water. Follow the care instructions on each garment and avoid high heat to help maintain its softness, shape, and color.
